I am in LOVE with this family session! I don't know if you remember that gusty day in Houston a few weeks ago, but it was THAT day that we had this session. It was incredibly windy! I was thinking to myself, "God, You have a plan. Make this work-if You want the wind to die down, then do it; if You want the wind to make these portraits, then do that too." It was truly an "all stars aligned" type of session! Sure, it would have been great without the wind, location, or time, but I think nailing all three with a great-looking family was what make these pictures so fabulous! Here are some of their family pictures--what an amazing set to choose from!

The babies are sooo cute!! Love their little faces and smiles!

I asked mom at the end of the shoot if I could take some promotional JH Capturing Creations shots of her daughter and she was happy to do that for me! Her little face, mood, countenance and the sunset just inspired me! I'll go ahead and share my faves (which is almost all of them...)

She reminded me of a wonderful feeling I love to have. As much as I can, as I go out and do this work, I think to myself, "How will God be glorified through this family, these images?" My husband likes to cheer me on and say, "Go capture creation, babe!" As I was processing this particular image, this song by Hillsong came on and I couldn't help but remember a gleeful thought as I was reminded of God. How do you follow that? I am humbly served through this image! I do in fact throw my life upon all that He is because I know He gave it all for me! This image reminds me of a time that I will dance in front of my father God one day in heaven as she is dancing in front of hers right here on earth. What an amazing visual and what joy fills my heart at the thought!! Perhaps you are blessed by it, and I sure hope God is glorified through it, but I certainly am inspired by it. I will dance with Him, where the love lasts forever! :)

Water + Baby + Brother = Love!

Well, the weather was great for this totally fun session! It was, as far as I could tell, the first day we had a break in the heat and had a perfect, cool evening. It was so refreshing to be outside! Our itty bitty man was turning 3 months and he was having a totally awesome day; oh so happy!

Any LSU fans out there?

The session was customized with some of mom's special requests. She wanted dad's great interests to be represented in the pictures--how thoughtful! In addition to LSU pics, Dad's love for fishing was the inspiration to our location and these next few shots!

Our big brother got in on the action too-highlighting his love for his little bro. He's a great big brother-getting to know him has been pretty special. What a great kid! If you need some boyscout popcorn, this kid will hook you up!

Lastly, I wanted to capture baby Cullen in his natural states...and a little dressed up. I'm telling you, he had a great evening! I'm pretty certain he was really enjoying the outdoors! Here he is in a few portraits! I fell in love with his eyes! I just want to keep staring. I also enjoy a sweet sleeping baby. The wind seemed to lull him to sleep-it was so peaceful!

I love to mix up styles depending on the "feel" of the picture. Sometimes a natural color, a warm color, or a texture can complete an image to me. The family loved the pictures and that always makes me feel so good!

Family at the Creek!

The family fall session have officially begun! I had a great time with this wonderful family a week ago-they are so awesome! They were so natural together and it was a great morning--really great conditions and a beautiful location. Just look at how happy they are together! Makes me feel so happy inside to capture them :)

For all those concerned mommies out there, here he is right after that throw-he's ok, everybody! Haha! He loved it! Mom was a little concerned too, but guess what? She ordered that shot. Hee hee!

Mom's time with the kids was so sweet-just as mommy moments are. What super sweet images they will treasure for a lifetime (or a few lifetimes).

Wedding Bells

I had a great time at a wonderful wedding recently in Hillje, Texas! I just was able to share the photos with the bride this Saturday--I really love that part! The wedding was held in a cute little Catholic church and everything was very heartfelt and simple! This couple is SO in love-they positively glowed! The bride has a son who was quite the ham for photos, but sweet and ginger with his mom on her wedding day.

Road trip! Hillje is not too far from Houston, a little south on Hwy 59. My second photographer was a new hire and boy did she deliver! Erin Helm-thank you! I loved the little team we made. She's a very diligent and hard worker and her focus on the day and the people was awesome.

What a wonderful and beautiful day for this couple! Congratulations, Kim and Chester!!

September Baby Photo Contest!

Each month, Capturing Creations Photography will be hosting a baby of the month contest! Winners will receive a FREE customized session or Lifestyle photo shoot!!

Each week of the month, submit a picture of your baby on my facebook page that fits the theme for that week! The babies with the most "likes" for the week will advance to a drawing at the end of the month for a free custom session from Capturing Creations Photography! TAG YOURSELF AND YOUR FRIENDS IN YOUR PHOTO TO GET LIKE'S (your friends will have to "Like" the Capturing Creations page in order to vote)!! Winners will be announced on my blog. By sharing pictures, contestants give permission for the picture to be used on the Capturing Creations blog for marketing reasons.

Summer Recap & Fall Mini-Sessions

Is summer over already? Oh my! I've had THE most amazing summer of my entire life and it has nothing to do with going to a lot of extravagant places or sunning by the pool. This summer marked the first summer of my own life; I am not returning to school as a specialist or teacher this year and I still can't believe it. I have had a job in education since 2002, and have been employed for someone else since I turned 16. As a parent/educator, the beginning of school can be a most stressful time! I'm sure many of you know what I'm talking about. I love teachers-and they have their work cut out for them!
This summer, I got to slow down and take care of myself, my family, and my friends. I gained a spiritual mom and dad and got to know them better. I explored God more. I wrestled with the word and stretched my faith. I picked up my guitar that I never learned how to play and am taking classes, I'm taking a french class, and am spending more time at HOME. It's amazing how much you can clean your home when you're actually there. I used to dread not being able to spend time with my kids during the day and this summer I drank it up. I took naps with them, watched movies with them, and we learned more about each other. I've read more books, read more in the bible, and have done a lot more praying. My husband and I had the whole summer together as well--it was a precious time for our relationship! It's a wonderful feeling-glory to God for blessing me with the opportunity to experience these past couple of months.

Many of my summer sessions were amazingly rewarding. I had some favorite images I'd like to share. If you're on my Facebook page, chances are you've seen these before, but if not, please take a look!

First, my nephew and his wife had a special baby girl. I got a chance to capture her and her sister!

Seniors got their groove on! Here are a few favorites!

Weddings are popping up everwhere it seems! Here are some great images from an awesome rainy day engagement session. I prayed that God grant me some creativity for this one since it was raining, and boy did He deliver!

I wish I could document everything I did, but perhaps I just need to post more often ;)

To close out the recap...I had a funeral for Lathan's hair. Yes, we finally cut it. Short. Short, short, short. I joked on Facebook that this would be the last haircut..of..his..life. Maybe. I love it; he is adorable no matter what! We'll just see what the future holds for this hair saga. Here he is! I took these on the way to see his grandparents--I made my hubby pull over on the side of the road. I couldn't resist this field and it was right at the golden hour, his hair is about to get longer and I hadn't properly documented it yet, and well....the stars aligned. ;)

So what is going on with that precious little girl of mine, Rio? Well, she's been pasted all over my website and business cards! During Spring Break, we went to visit a dogwood tree park (my favorite kind of tree), and got some awesome images! If you haven't been on my website lately, then you'll be glad to see she's certainly taken the cake of my inspiration! Just in case you haven't seen them yet, here she is. She's SO excited to start school again and I tease her that I don't want her to go back. She loves to do chores and we washed dishes together tonight. She still wants to marry her little brother. ;)

Purple Jars

I had a dream during a very interesting time this past year. Most would call this time a "time of trouble". First, it would be nice to have some mood music...

So if you're playing that and reading this, then perhaps you'll get a glimpse into this wonderful dream..

It was one of those dreams that takes all night. It was about various different things, but the part I remember the most was when I was walking (or riding in a car) down the street. The street was lined with houses and trees on both sides. As I floated down, I heard singing. I thought it could be some of the people that were in the houses. I looked into each of them and for some reason, the women I was asking could hear me from their second story windows. As I passed each house, I would ask them, "Are you the one singing?" Each of them would say "No, I'm not. That's not me," and smile kindly. Soon, I realized the left side of the street had changed. It was no longer houses and trees but a long beach. I wondered briefly where the trees went.

I waded out into the water and found so much joy in it. I began to kick it, play with it; it was more refreshing than water ever seemed. I soon found a jar come my way; it seemed to appear out of nowhere as I played. It was a purple jar and it seemed to be hard plastic (you never can tell in dreams for sure). It was round, empty, and could float on the water. I picked it up and began to enjoy filling it up with the water, then pouring it out. I was actually enjoying playing with this jar-much like a child. Somehow, I didn't feel foolish-I felt happy. It didn't take long, but once I realized how happy this jar made me, I began to covet the jar. The thought entered my mind, "I better hang on to this jar, I hope I don't lose it." I looked around to see if there was any kind of danger...any kind of threat to my jar. As I looked around, I saw another jar exactly like it floating nearby. Now I had two. This made me very happy. While I got used to the fact that I now had two jars, I thought, "Well, now I can let the first jar go and I can still have this other jar." When I let go of the first jar to play with the second, the feeling was profoundly liberating. It made me happy to know I didn't have to hang on. All the while, this song, "He is Lord", was being sung in the background. I never found out who was singing it. It must have been angels. The entire dream was filled with music about God.

Directly after having my liberating feeling, I looked up across the water toward the horizon. The music and singing continued. I saw an amazing sight! There were purple jars floating in the water-with beautiful symmetry and perfection. Floating straight up, in rows, perfectly placed in a line, and the waves were all parallel with the horizon. Each wave came with the same speed, each was perfectly spaced. The jars never moved from their line, they were placed with perfection on each third wave. They came empty, and I could let go of any which one. I never had to hang on to any one of the jars. The line of jars didn't have an end, and as my eyes stretched to see the last ones, my eye found the vast horizon. Immediately the thought entered my mind, "These are coming from God...and they will just keep coming." What an amazing realization! What an incredible feeling! The angels were singing "Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord!"

You see, in my time of trouble, my position as a curriculum coach at my school district had not been renewed. I had faith that God would take care of our every need and that everything would be fine. Many would look at my situation and feel sorry for me in some way or the unknown would make them feel uncomfortable. What I have found through my faith is that God truly will take care of me...and I don't need to know what His plan is all the time. I didn't want to waste time worrying, and I didn't. I was praying that He would use me however He wanted to in this next phase of life. I became excited that His plan was working-I knew it was His since I never even had a choice! I knew photography had been pulling me and many had suggested it to be my next full-time job. I erroneously believed that there was a right and wrong road--either teach or do photography--one was right and the other was wrong (error!). With this dream, God was saying, "You don't need to worry if the blessings will come...they will always come." I felt so much faith! I found that they were purple because they were regal...from the King Himself. I even realized that the jars were empty...the water was what I was filling them up with...but the water could represent anything that makes me happy-good finances, good health, good relationships, good opportunity to work for Jesus. I was excited. A dream like this cannot be made my man--its perfection, imagery, lessons, and sincerity is only a testament to infinite wisdom (Amen!).

That same day, I had turned down a job offer to teach once again full-time. Through a friend, and in another whisper, God released me from the burden of "right" and "wrong" and told me that I was free to make a choice that would make me most happy. We both know that whichever way I go, He would be glorified. So then, my decision was blessed! I would be a full-time photographer as long as I want to be! Purple jars will keep coming my way! I've adopted each blessing with a new terminology, "a purple jar".

Thanks for sticking with me this far--you are a blessing to me. I hope that what I do and write will inspire you to find your faith and see His beauty through all things and in all things. My pictures are just images of his creations--He has created a real being. Although my task to show His glory is utterly impossible, I still want to try. If you're wondering why I don't have a picture of a purple jar, it's because I don't want to ruin the perfection He showed to me in my dream...my jar will not have a splendor like His.

P.S. I listen to Hillsong A LOT. I highly recommend buying everything they have... ;)

I almost wrote "3"! It feels like you've been part of the family forEVER--and I can't believe it's only been 2 years...some people say it goes by fast. These last 2 years have NOT for me. I think I was so focused on making sure I documented everything about you by video or pictures, that it really seemed to slow down--I know everything about you!

We had an amazing day at your party-celebrating you, but also celebrating fellowship with the ones who know you. Our family and friends had a great time with kites, volleyball, and just plain playing around.

Here you are...throwing your ball like a pro. You're a sports maniac and you always want to watch sports, not cartoons. You got mad at me for changing it from Sportscenter after the basketball game was over...you definitely know what you want when it comes to television!

Valentine's Heart for Charity 2011

It's that time of year again! I love giving to this charity! I can't imagine how hard the mission is to provide clean water for people that don't have any. I love being able to help in the little ways that I can and I hope you find it a blessing to do so as well. I am running a promotion to use my God-given talents to bless this village. Please watch the video!

My campaign goal is $500 and I am doing a couple of great things to raise money for this effort and am using Valentine's Day as a springboard! First, I customized a PERFECT Valentine's Day card that you can send to your family and friends or use for trading at school! Send me a picture of your child (or children) and I can pop your picture in the card and send it back to you. It will be ready for you to take to your favorite processing lab for prints! I will do some minor editing to the image you send me and I can also make the image black and white at your request. Here are a couple of versions I've created from my own pictures to give you an idea:

I love these cards! You may not be able to see the details (like pink polka dots) on your computer screen, but they are super cute! What is shown is a 5x7 size. You may request a 4x6 size instead of a 5x7--the elements will be smaller. I am doing this service for FREE! In return, please help me raise money for building water wells. Donate whatever amount you want HERE and send your child's picture to jholub@capturingcreations.com(no minimum required).

Another way I'd like to use my talents to bless is by offering Valentine's Day mini sessions! The sessions will be held at Old Town Spring on Saturday, January 22nd. Here's a preview!

Well, it has been another full year and a of course, everyone has made their resolutions...except me! I think I forgot...Lol! In my mind, my resolution was the same as last year: get closer to God, dive in the Word, and in general, learn to love more. So then, I think that's pretty good! I think that if I accomplish that, my choices this year will be affected for the good, so that's a very good thing! ;)

Our family had a BLAST this past holiday season. I don't know where rules are created, but I surely always seem to miss the memo...haha! Don't get me wrong, I love rules that are there to serve, but sometimes unspoken rules can get in the way. Last year I saw a very cool Christmas tree--one that I'll never forget. It had such a profound effect on me that I decided when I saw it that our family will forever change the way we celebrate Christmas. The Christmas tree was themed "Happy Birthday, Jesus!". It was decorated with party hats and streamers, ribbons and gifts...beautiful pinks, purples, and greens. It was full of festivity, it was an amazing sight, and I loved it! It was so nicely done (you could tell someone had REALLY worked hard on this tree), and for me, it obviously caught the essence of what Christmas was always meant to be--a celebration of the birth of
Christ. I loved it so much that I decided that I wanted our family to celebrate Christmas with a birthday party for Jesus, and we did. It was our first year, and it was a lot of fun, and I'm sure every year will get even better. My daughter really, really understood why we were celebrating and when asked about what Christmas is, she always responded, "Jesus's birthday!", which really is our goal as parents. We do talk about Santa (for those that are wondering), and we had a great time with the Santa gifts, but our joy came from the celebration of a wonderful day, which made it so much more special than we have ever experienced before.
I did decorate the house with streamer and even made a "Happy Birthday Jesus" wreath. I bought a helium balloon kit so we could have fresh balloons on Christmas morning. It was so fun to plan! I've been very fond of the pink and purple ornaments and always wondered to myself, "Who buys those? Who has a tree like that? They must have 2 or 3 trees..." I was very surprised to find a lot of great birthday gift themed ornaments at Hobby Lobby and they even carried "Happy Birthday, Jesus" napkins and a table centerpiece. I did have the most trouble finding dishes (I ended up using paper plates--oh well, it's a birthday party!) and a tablecloth--everything was red or green or white.

Here some pictures of the tree when it first went up, before all of the rest of the decorations, and of course, the token "kids in front of the tree" shot. At least my son is pointing fun at me. I love this picture--totally shows their personalities.

Here's one on Christmas morning--you can see her a little blurry by the tree...she just woke up and this is in the "magic" of the reveal! Such a sweet time!

The most important transformation in my life occurred on December 9, 2004 when I realized that I was pregnant with my first child at the age of 31. My husband and I had been married for 8 years and I was perfectly happy with my life. I am a very giving person, I think my friends and family would agree with that, but when it came to the decision of having a child, I very selfishly decided that I did not want to be a mom. I was happy with sleeping in on the weekends, not having to worry about a little person who would demand all of my time or deal with the financial burden. I liked my designer handbags and being able to go shopping when I wanted. My husband kept telling me that we needed to pray about it but I did not want to pray about it. I had it all figured out. I was going to do things my way and on my terms. Deep down, I wrestled with the guilt that came with that decision. I would hear stories of other women that so desperately wanted a child and here I was, just brushing motherhood so easily aside. I would just bury my guilt and carry on, happy with my decision. I justified my decision usually by convincing myself that I would not make a good mother anyway.

On December 9, 2004 I took a pregnancy test and I have never been so terrified in my entire life as I was when that tiny little screen flashed the word "Pregnant". My husband, bless his heart, he called every person we knew. I have never seen him happier. His happiness eased some of my fears and my panic but I did not know how I was going to deal with the pressures of motherhood. I have to admit that I was a little annoyed at God. Wasn't it MY decision not to have children?

On July 15, 2005 at 5:03 p.m., I was blessed with the most beautiful thing I have ever laid eyes. CW came into our lives almost exactly 5 months after my mother lost her younger brother and my grandmother lost her youngest son in a motorcycle accident. CW not only blessed my husband and I but he blessed our entire family. He not only transformed me as a person and as a woman but he transformed our entire family. I know that when my grandmother held CW, it helped to ease some of the pain she felt for her loss and gave her hope. CW was a blessing from God in so many ways. The only way that I can describe the love that a mother feels for her child is that I don't think I ever truly knew the meaning of the word L-O-V-E until I had CW.

I now buy my handbags at Target after my old one is falling apart. I love buying CW a new outfit and could care less about going shopping for myself. God blessed me with the ultimate gift and I thank Him every day for showing me humility and teaching me that He is in control and that I should always rely on His grace and His love.

Thank you for allowing me to share my personal and spiritual story of transformation.

Such a great story of love and how God shows He truly is in control. I appreciate the honesty in being "a little annoyed at God". After all, so many of us feel that way when things don't go OUR way (in the way that we think they should). What I have learned is to trust God, and in Him, I always have hope. I believe April experienced Romans 12:2:

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will."

We had a great time for Halloween this year; lots of smiles, fun, and candy! We had a full weekend--Pumpkin Patch with church on Saturday and trick-or-treating on Sunday. Of course, with the way I am, I booked my Saturday completely. Soccer game in the morning, season-ending lunch after, hair appointment for my little angel, photo shoot with her, dressing up the kids, Pumpkin Patch, taking pictures at Pumpkin Patch, then...home. Finally. To get dressed right back up again and do it the next day. Whew! I was worn out; in fact I think I came down with something--exhaustion!
Rio was an angel to match Lathan's costume--Jesus. Yes, Jesus. Lathan has this great hair...

...so then, with his long, curly hair and blue eyes, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to dress him as Jesus. I actually made his costume myself; which was a treat--I learned I need to own a sewing machine. Having Jesus with us was so great, and the jokes abounded for two days!

While trick-or-treating, Jesus made his first appearance at a doorstep after he took the time to walk on water by the curb..

Jesus is knocking at your door...will you answer? LOL

...and a friend joked on Facebook about this picture that Jesus went out to the wilderness by himself.. (hilarious, Sara!)

Although Lathan (I mean, Jesus), didn't understand the concept of getting candy, then walking away, and even putting the candy in the bag instead of trying to eat it all on the spot, we still had tons of fun trick-or-treating with our friends. Rio had a great time playing an angel too, and she sure does love Jesus!

So then, what of our little angel? Didn't she get all dolled up for a photo shoot with mommy? Absolutely! She was shimmery and glittery, dolled up and sweet--everything she wanted to be for Halloween. We had some time together and I had been looking forward to this time with her for awhile! I love her seasonal photo shoots; they keep me going!

God is sooooo good!

She is a wonderful little girl and I am so blessed to have her in my life! She teaches me more and more every day about unconditional, sweet love. She is so close to Jesus, it's amazing to witness! I love her smile and every cute thing she says and does including, "oops, sorry to mention.." Haha, hilarious!

And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 18:3. Yes, Lord!

To My Dear Husband: Happy Birthday

This day has been on my mind for quite awhile now, and so I dedicate my blog post to my dear husband, Harvey. Harvey is turning the big 4-0 today, and I am glad to call him mine.

Honey, you are a true blessing in my life. My God has been so faithful in sending you to me. I write this and think back to the times we have had together--both wonderful and terrible. We have seen so much already in our young lives; I'm anxious and afraid in part to see what is next. The biggest difference I feel for the future, however, is our strength in the Lord has grown by leaps and bounds. He has been opening doors that we are choosing to walk through together daily. In that, I find rest, peace, comfort, and joy. My Savior tells me not to be afraid; to delight in our future together.

You, along with my Savior, are what make me want to be better, and you are a constant reminder of Christ's love. You love me as Christ loves the church...I'm not sure how many lucky wives can say that. I have so many faults...and yet you love me still. I am so blessed to have you. Thank you for being who you are and for being an amazing husband and father. Your heart of gold, the sacrifices you make, the rock you are for me and for our kids, are like no other. I have run from this before, but I now stand in awe of God's blessing in you. You forgive without restraint and you love without conditions. You are an endless fountain of caring. Thank you for all that you do--thank you for loving me.

I am excited about your birthday and all it means for you. Your future in our Lord is bright and shines like the sun! I pray for happiness and love over you and sincerely hope to give you the same gifts you have given me. It's your birthday--you are only one year older--but we are both so much wiser. I love you so!

Cute Little Babies!

I have known this great little family for a year now, and they are just awesome! They had a new little baby girl and I was fortunate enough to take them out and get pictures of her. They have a cute little spitfire who was a ball of energy, but was actually really good when it was time to snap a few!

Ok, so confession? I took these in the summer! Oh my goodness, it has been a crazy life lately. I don't even know when it started; I think it just keeps going... ;)

So we went out to this cute little Old Town spot and I was hoping to get some cute spots and sky in the background. It was a rainy day and the sky was rockin' pinks, purples, oranges, deep blues, and puffy storm clouds. I had visions of a baby in a basket, incredible painted sky in the background, then some cute nook shots. Well, don't go around buildings for sky, lesson number 1. Lesson number 2: rain makes the sky darker faster. So, although my summer day was long just the day before, the next day looked like it was dark already.. Then baby girl was really not liking being set down and mommy was trying to come up with innovative ways to make her sleep. I think I have begun a reputation for wide awake newborn shots! Oh yeah, Lesson number 3: Houston is sooooooo humid! My eyes were stinging from the sweat and the lenses were foggy. Wow. Talk about overcoming obstacles!

Speaking of overcoming, the shoot was an immense success! As far as the little angel goes, she makes every picture perfect. He is the cutest little boy that loves his little sister like no other. Aaaand they both have perfectly pouty lips (is that a word? pout-ty? they pout. there...) Haha! Enjoy these little angels; you'll want to give them a great big hug!

"Pretty Boy" Lathan's Hair

To answer your question...NO, I'm not cutting it! Haha! I've had that question posed so many times, its been funny. I do believe that for security's sake, we should keep it long so everyone can recognize him from a mile away. ;)

So he got some great features--dark, curly locks of hair, blue eyes, long lashes, pink lips, and olive skin...he is a "pretty" boy. We were over at a friend's house yesterday and the host kept saying "come on over here pretty...uhh...boy", and one time he said "good girl" after Lathan gave him a hi-five. HAHA! He couldn't help it! Lathan is just...well...pretty!

This child is going to be a handful with the girls. He is a real flirt! I mean when he gets a hold of a grown woman's gaze, he won't let her go! He'll smile, then shyly look away, make her smile, then look back and do it all over again. Not to mention his smooth hands. Ahem. Just a few funny stories on that regard, thank goodness. He is all about the ladies and when you give him a smile, there's no telling how long you'll be staring at this baby. He definitely has mommy wrapped around his little finger, and he doesn't have to work hard to get his caretakers wrapped either!

Don't let his pretty boy looks fool you--he's all boy with a great left arm! He rotates his shoulder when he throws and practices his "form" when the ball isn't in his hands. He's a great catch and loves nothing more than to play ball or yell "OH!", like "just missed it!". He also thing everything goes, "RAWR!"...it could be a picture of a bunny rabbit, it still goes "RAWR!". Funniest thing I've ever heard!

He is a musical genius. Nothing can calm him like music or singing. He's a singer and praiser in the car and loves to tap on his legs to the beat of the music. He keeps music time really well and many times will keep tapping through most of the song! I am thoroughly impressed. It's amazing how God puts people together--God fashioned little Lathan just for me--he's beautiful. I've not said that often about a boy!

So how long am I going to let his hair grow? I don't know. I'm hoping to find a great barber that can keep his length but take away enough from the bottom so that he doesn't look like a girl... ;)

Summer Smile

I haven't blogged about my little girl in a long while--perhaps because she's always dodging the camera now! It's feels so long that she's hardly even a little girl anymore; she's a very happy and sweet little lady who plans to marry Jesus...or her little brother (obviously too small to understand so what do you do?). She's mentioned both... Haha!

We had an awesome getaway to Sea World this summer and visited family in Austin. On the way, we had to stop at a lake as we passed through Bastrop. We needed a break after the kids woke up from their nap and were getting restless. So what does mommy do? Hmmm...there's a sign for a lake right there, let's go! Seriously, it was only a few miles from the beaten path, so we stopped to let the kids play. Of course, I had recently been getting motivated about taking pictures of her again since every time I get within 50 miles of Austin, the nature juices start flowing. I wish I could just always have that nature, water, and hill country at my disposal! I know, I know, just move. That's a great idea, except I haven't felt the need from the Big Man upstairs yet. So, we'll just have to go with what we have for now.

There was a neat pier and Rio took to it right away! Here she is being a great sport for mommy and letting me take these.

I got so many great images, it was hard to choose! I simply love taking pictures of her! My favorite one is this one since it captures her personality; it seems I'm looking at this face all the time. The focus was off, but I still like to keep them since it depicts her so much!

Some Mornings

Since being off for the summer, it has been a blessing to spend time with my babies in the mornings. I've really had fun getting to know them again. Since my son is so young, it feels like I'm getting to know my little one for the first time. His personality is shining through and I've noticed a few things I've not noticed before. I wish I had written them all down--of course I keep telling myself I will--but then when I get around some paper and a pen a few days later, it's all gone! Boo. It gets mixed up in all that he is.
He definitely has a little attitude and fighting has been a "battle" to say the least. They had to get used to one another as well since during the days this past year, they were not seeing each other. Sad situation for a family! She is such a little mother and I noticed he will call her Mama almost as quickly as he calls me Mama. I looove the way he says "ball"; it's his favorite word and favorite toy for sure. He loves oatmeal in the morning and she...well...she doens't like breakfast food that much. The other day her uncle was perplexed by her decision to have a pb&j and some carrots for breakfast. I don't question anymore, as long as its healthy.
Learning to share has been the test of the summer for him. Learning to be a loving big sister without being overwhelmingly in his face has been her challenge. I often hear her say things like,"Here, come over and I'll brush your hair. Ok, you're all done. Ok. Stand right there. Ok, come over here and sit down with me. You're so cute! I love you so much. Let me touch your hair (it's soft). Please, come here and let me touch your hair!" Haha. He's only one and trying to figure out what this big sister's function is. Seems all she does sometimes is hug me and get me in trouble...

My Mother

I have had a very busy end-of-the-school year time! I'm sure everyone is feeling the same with the onset of summer on the wake. Since I didn't get to blog in May, I wanted to still make a tribute to my mom. She is the bravest, most self-sacrificing person I know--someone who would do anything for her children. She is so wonderful!

My mom, Dolores, had to endure a countless number of things in her lifetime growing up in Mexico. Her name means "sorrowful". She also goes by "Lola" and her uncles and aunts use to call her "Lolita". Many of the stories she tells of her childhood deal with seemingly insurmountable despair. She grew up quickly.

Motherhood has been her role for the majority of her life. First and foremost, she naturally bore 12 children. Yes, 12! She had 6 boys and 6 girls, and I am number 11 in the lineup. I have one younger brother. As you can imagine, the diapers alone were an amazing amount of daily work and keeping everyone fed was a gigantic stress. She did it all: washing, ironing, cooking, and cleaning while babies everywhere needed her. I cannot imagine, even having two, how she coped. They say my son has my temperament as a child--God bless my mother! I am so thankful to her for her sacrifices. She sacrificed of herself and her comfort daily for the comfort of her children--she was called to.

Dolores is a truly amazing woman. If the tireless nights and work alone were not enough, she also had to keep strong in her faith that one day things would get better and her children would always be protected by God. She was a rock in her faith that the Lord was always near. She constantly prayed safety over us and willed blessings into our lives. To this day, she is continuously praying over and thinking about all of her children. I truly believe God has heard and answered her prayers. I respect her because despite so much negativity around her, she never cursed or turned to the world for answers. Her answers always came from God. I appreciate her example so much and of course, she contributed to my own faith.

Dolores is a woman deep with faith and love. She is a servant and stronghold. I love her immensely! I can never repay you for your sacrifices, Mamá, but I can honor you the only ways I know how. Te amo con todo mi corazón!

I had the honor of photographing this beautiful girl recently--gorgeous perfect smile and awesome bod! It was a wonderful day, but the sun was relentless! We found a great shady spot with some huge trees and all she had to do was smile. She made my job seem easy...my favorites are hard to choose! The lighting was tricky on these, but in the end, I am pleased with the fabulous results! Here she is...watch out! :)

They say it only takes a spark to get a fire going. Well, that spark was you. Today I want to write to my late father, Homero Gomez Cerna.

Today is your birthday. Happy Birthday, Daddy. Tomorrow is the anniversary of your death. Still a celebration, but one that I must admit, is harder for me to bear.

Thank you for your spark, Daddy. You once told me that I can do anything I wanted to...and I believed you. I believe you still. Why me? The words of a parent are so strong. I learned that from you. Your wisdom and lessons still follow me. For a while I resented your leaving, for the time I didn't get to spend with you. I choose now to focus on the time I did.

I miss your greetings. I miss the way when I entered into the house, you immediately announced my arrival to the world. I miss how you loved my daughter and you called her Beautiful, and you told her to her face that she was. She didn't understand you then, but I remind her of how you spoke to her. I miss your big, contagious laugh and the jokes you told. You were not done with me.

I dream of you seeing my son one day. You would say he has your mother's eyes, and that he's "puro Gomez".

Rest in peace, dear Daddy. Where you left off, our God has picked up. He has held me and brought the Comforter to me in the midst of your absence. He has sung songs over me as you used to. The morning is our friend.

Although I still remember you vividly and will never let you go, I know I have to trust in God to bring people to me to show me the way. I know I will see you again one day. Our God knows I want to.

Rio was crying for you yesterday. She said she didn't want to go to heaven because it takes too long to come home. She misses you. I told her heaven was home, and that you would be waiting along with our Father, God. I remember being scared of heaven, clinging to this life with all of my heart, but I don't anymore. I long for heaven!

Here's my family celebrating you today. I love to capture their love for you.

Thank you for being a good daddy. I will see you again one day! Rio mentioned how she can't wait to see you--she's not afraid of heaven anymore. Now she dreams of it--as do I. My Charity Fundraiser

Hi everyone! Just wanted to deliver my promise of more information on the fundraiser I am doing for charitywater.org that I posted on my facebook page. My fundraiser website is http://mycharitywater.org/rioswater. I named it that because my daughter's name is Rio, and well...it means river...river, water..I don't know, it goes...right?

Most importantly, I have been challenging myself this year to do more heart and less "work". I am studying and finding ways to help others in need and Charity Water has a great mission--to simply provide clean water for those who need it. The fundraiser I am doing for Charity Water has a goal of $5000. $5,000 can build a freshwater well in a village and provide 250+ people with clean drinking water. I am also going to try to raise money by taking pictures! Who would have thought? I am offering outdoor mini sessions for half price ($75). All session fees and proceeds will be donated to Rio's Water.

January Natural Light

I looove the light that streams into the windows in January. Everything is so much brighter and I love the sun! Weekends are great because I am home to witness the phenomenon; and even though I'd rather be outside, it the below-freezing temperatures Houston had this weekend, I was glad to be inside. We are so blessed!
I always grab a few pictures during this time of the year in our bedroom of my daughter, and now my son is around to get some in too. Here's one of them each--it was hard to choose. Surprise, surprise, she's smiling in this one; the rest of her images were serious for the most part. I had to tell her I was coming after her in order to capture that smile! He seems to be following in her footsteps with the serious faces. Maybe he will start smiling once he understands english!

Happy New Year! I am writing with a heavy and grateful heart as we start this new year. I am ready for a new year, and to make resolutions that will resonate within me for the rest of my life. Sometimes I think there just comes a time for each of us. As I write, I'm pouring inspirational songs into my head, and it really effects my outlook, so watch out!

A new year--new beginnings...it seems so simple to think you can start all over again. I remember feeling this way back when, and I now realize how difficult it was each year. Why is it so difficult? Because each year, you still have memories of your past, and whether deliberate or not, there are people around you that may make it difficult for you to forget. Thank God He isn't that way at all!

I don't want to simply rattle off some resolutions and get it over with; like I've mentioned, I am writing with a heavy and grateful heart. My resolutions have been inspired by many songs recently, one in particular by David Crowder. It is called How He Loves and I would like for you to hear it!

As I look at the new year, with new promises and blessings sure to come, I turn my back on the year past, but never to its blessings. I have come across the most amazing people, amazing love, and the most amazing instruments of God. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt He placed these people in my path and has blessed me in tremendous ways through them. He is shaping me through their love, diligence, sacrifices, and examples. I would be a fool to ignore their significance. These beautiful people have marked my life for the better. Thank you; if you're reading this, you know who you are.

Obviously, another way to look at how the past is the past. One day He will set all things right, and when my world shook, Heaven stood. When my heart broke, I never left His hands.

Now, for my resolutions. I resolve to firstly pursue God with a passion and force. I want to sprint to my God this year and seek to know Him as if I'm being chased, because I am! I am running to my better life, and I'm being pursued by the dark forces of negativity, hopelessness, selfishness, and regret. It all seems so reversed; like living in Him should feel like I'm chained, but I can feel how it is freeing--even more --confident, fulfilling, and peaceful, yet humble, at the same time. I'm tired of belonging only to me; the rewards I have in store for myself aren't very grand, nor do they last very long. No, the challenge will be living for others. There, the rewards are full and great, and last forever. How could I ignore the examples He's sent for me to see? What shall I do when I see them in heaven? "Sorry, I know what you did, but I couldn't do the same." No, I'll rejoice with them and our rewards shall be great. I will study His word and learn the lessons He has in store for me this year. I will grow. I leave my guilt, regrets, and forgiven sins in 2009; I won't carry them into 2010. As David Crowder put it, "I don’t have time to maintain these regrets, when I think about, the way..." He loves me.

Secondly, I resolve to do less business and pour more heart into what I do. I love what I do--both in trade and in work--and I haven't had a problem being passionate for it. Sometimes it can become just business and work, though. I don't want to live that way; I will renew my soul often, hopefully daily, for the good of the people I work for and with.

Thirdly, I resolve to be passionate about my relationships in my family. Immediate or not, I don't care. Just because they know me the best doesn't mean I can't be an example and a light for them. I want to live for them more than I live for me. I want to give them grace like Jesus has given me. My work and interests are important to me, but my God and my family is more. I want my kids and husband to have a Jesus example in their own home and to live a happy and full life of laughter and love. I know I can directly effect that by who I am around them and how much grace I show them.

Lastly, I resolve to take care of my body. I feel better when I'm in shape and eating well. Our health as a family is in large part subject to what I cook (if I do!) every night. Time has been so scarce that I've put exercise and eating right on the back burner. I resolve to study and find creative solutions for our family's health.

I never said my resolutions were going to be easy. I know they will be tough--some more than others. I give myself permission to shoot for the stars and hit the moon. If Jesus doesn't come first, and I've lived to see the end the year, then knowing more about my God and walking with Jesus is my success. That's another great reward--not fearing death. If I die, then God just wanted to show me His world and my reward. It would be my greatest pleasure, my greatest honor, to see it!

As for this world, and speaking of pouring heart into this passion of mine, here's a glorious new heart for you! This little boy is just so precious!! My heart bursts for this mother who gets to care for this little one!

I can't believe how fast 2009 flew by! It seems like yesterday we were having Christmas in this house, but now I will be having it with two little ones tomorrow, not just one! I don't know how I'll capture every little moment for my little newbie! It's going to be a great day. I have so many fun gifts to give this year--much work involved, but it's all going to be worth it. I've been trying as much as I can to stay focused on helping others and finding joy in the Lord this season, and I'll be honest and say the busyness surrounding the holiday can really be distracting! My minister challenged us in picturing and planning or worship, and I'm so glad he did. I've found that I do things a bit differently when Christ is at the forefront of my Christmas--all the way down to the gifts I make or buy for the people I care for. Our giving doesn't stop at our family, and I am so glad to give back to a community that raised me.

The stores were crazy, the traffic was worse, and I think for the first time, I would have really rather been home! I found joy in finding perfect gifts and getting ideas for the future, and now it will all culminate tomorrow. My worship will be ongoing and I want to continue for the rest of my life, really.
I saw a great idea recently that I am going to implement next year, and I will pass it on to you. I saw a Christmas tree decorated in bright colors with tool, ribbons, and gift boxes that had a sign on the front that read "Happy Birthday, Jesus!" What a fantastic idea!! I'll be decorating our tree very differently next year, and I'll probably be wrapping the Christmas presents as birthday presents. I love a nicely wrapped birthday present! Now, explaining Santa's birthday wrap to my 5 year old next year may be a challenge, but I'm sure I'll come up with something since Santa works for Jesus...haha!

Have an incredibly awesome Christmas tomorrow with your loved ones! Remember the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ and what that means for us...our salvation! My minister also mentioned this (which makes me cry every time I think about it while looking at my son)... Jesus was that small once! He came into the world just like us even though he could have just appeared. My God, how Awesome You are to have chosen such a lowly birth and a raw existence. Learn to walk like we do, talk like we do, everything. He probably got hurt, skinned his knee, everything we experience with our own little ones. Mary, I'm sure, was SO proud of her baby boy. I can't even imagine what treasures she must have held in her heart throughout her life for that little boy, Jesus. What an amazing story and what amazing faith she had to be more than okay with it all!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It was so good to be home this past weekend and spend some time with my family. I had a great time with my brothers and sisters watching football Saturday night, then again on Sunday. Best of all, I got to see my brother and his family from D.C., whom I haven't seen in over a year and a half! I enjoyed reconnecting with them!

This year has been such a life-changing, faith-growing year for me. I've learned more than ever to trust and love God, and He has blessed me and fills my cup daily. I have learned that He is ultimately all I will ever need, and He is the one who provides. There are many lessons I'm sure to struggle with for many years to come, but I'm off to a great start, and it always starts with a broken soul. Thank goodness for broken souls. Without them, so many of us would never realize how much we really do need God; someone more than this earth can provide. I have so much to be thankful for.

My babies are healthy and beautiful. They were going through spurts of sicknesses the past few months and now are pretty healthy, except for the occasional breathing treatments for them both. I'm thankful that I don't have to go to or stay at the hospital to visit my children. I pray for those that do.

I have a wonderful mother who loves me very much. She and I seem to grow closer every year, and every year she seems more interested in me and my family. She's had an excuse--she's been raising her kids for over 50 years now! She's now 70 years old and a mother of 12. I am number 11, and needless to say, she was always cooking or cleaning every time I turned around as a young girl and even now when I visit the house. Her hardworking and giving heart is such and incredible example for me and I'm thankful for her.

I have a wonderful husband who loves me with an amazing love. His hard work this year in grad school and as a father have made me realize how precious time can be. I am glad he is an awesome support to our family and has loved us without bounds. He is striving to dream with me. I am thankful for him.

I have an incredible new job with people that are comfortable being themselves. What a difference that can make in your life! I thoroughly enjoy what I do and the people I partner with. I can see friendships established, relationships, and history being built, and I'm so glad to be a part of it. I am thankful for my co-workers and their positive attitudes.

My God has blessed my dreams with more dreams; my goals with more goals; my passions with more passions. He has heard me ask Him to break me and mold me, and He has taken upon that task. He is blessing me with knowledge, wisdom, and a craving for learning that I can't explain except for that it comes from Him. He teaches me several new things every day. He sings songs over me and I rejoice in Him. I am thankful to have a God that loves me and keeps part of Himself unknown. I yearn to get to know Him, especially when this life is done! How much there is to look forward to! I am thankful I don't know fully what it is!! Haha!

Hello all! It's almost that time of year again, can you believe it? I sure can't! This year has flown by for me; having a new baby sure will do it to you--and exhaust you too! Back by popular demand this year, with a new twist, are family mini-sessions! This is for the family who doesn't want to go to the department store studios and wait in line with whiny babies for not-as-good-as-mine images! Haha.

Well, I want to save you time, frustration and money, and since I am way low on time this year, I can only offer one date. So sorry! The day is Saturday, November 7th. I am scheduling the following time slots:

I got to work with a really cute bride--she was all smiles, fun, and jokes--on her wedding day. I have been soooo busy! I had a great marriage session with this great couple a few weeks ago and they were the best! I love being able to be different, try new things, push the norm, so to speak. Well, this couple allowed me to do all of that and more. First, they had this incredible home filled with art--photographic art, metal art, all very beautiful and thought out. Then they had these great big friendly dogs who were so curious and loved to be around and see what the new girl was doing in the house. They then shared with me their love for dirtbiking. I really enjoyed getting to know this couple! They had so many interests, it was easy to see they really enjoy life and their hobbies. I was so fortunate that they allowed me to come in and try to record their lives right now; I did my best to represent what was most important to them. I have been having an absolute blast with these images and although I'm not yet done processing, I am excited to share this sneak peak into this amazing session!

Lathan is growing!

He's gi-normous! Yes, he is. He has to have a "big-boy" bottle, if there is such a thing.. I have to say I am in love with the cooing in the morning. I just adore it. I don't know how I can live without cooing in the house; it just warms my inner being! Is there any other sound that's better to wake to? Can there possibly be? Perhaps. A memory from my childhood comes to mind when I would wake to the sound of my dad mowing the lawn outside. I know it sounds crazy, but it was oh so comforting! I miss him so. Ok, not here to cry! Haha! I love my daddy!

Yay! I haven't had a newborn shoot in sooo long and this one was just amazingly awesome! This little sweetness was awake and alert almost the entire time and was a jewel to work with. She captured my heart and since mom signed up for the baby growth plan, she'll be gracing me with her presence 3 more times this year; I can't wait to watch her grow! Loving every minute! Thanks, Karen, for letting me live my vicarious 3rd baby life through you; I hope I have more! Haha! I am definitely needing another girl. Ahem--anyway, since my youngest is only 5 months, I should change the subject! :)~

Ahhh...weddings are wonderful! I had a few shots I wanted to share with you from a wedding I did recently. I thought the girls getting ready before the ceremony was so cute, I kept snapping away!

I caught her gazing one last time at herself in the mirror...on her wonderful day! How beautiful she must have felt, and it shows!

This shot just makes me smile. It seems as if she's really floating. I actually think she may have been! Radiant bride, that's for sure!

This couple was awesome! They met at a drama meet in high school and eventually came back around to that same stage they both knew so well only to tie the knot! What a sweet story!

Yay for social networking!...uh...sort of. So I had my twitter updates coming through to my blog and I thought, "How cool! Now my blog can be updated and moving; neat!" Well, to do that, I had to have my account on the public timeline, which allows everyone to see...I was kind of okay with that...until I checked recently and had these followers that wanted me to watch their videos! Ewww! Umm..no. Ha. So, I need to keep my messages off the public timeline. Bragging Time!!

My kids are the best! Haha. Get right to the point, I guess!

Rio has been doing great with dance except she hardly listens to the instructor...who needs instructions when your ideas are so much better and funner (is that a word? I don't think so but it sounds good!)? She's having fun though, and feels like a ballerina princess each time! That's what counts at this stage (per the instructor--you go, girl), so I encourage her to participate in what the rest of the class is doing, but I don't stress when she's not--for both our sakes! Ha! Thankfully, she does listen to the important ones like, "stand like this" or "find the black line!", so that's been fun to watch. Here's a couple of her doing what she does best--twirling! I don't know where she got this from--she's been doing it a long time--but she always starts her twirl with her hand on her chest and then twirls, regathers, hand on chest, twirl. It's so hilarious to watch!

Haha! Give the kid a break! She had swim class for an hour right before this class! Ha!

Then there's the other Holub baby. I will from now on refer to him as Superbaby; maybe Superman eventually! He went to his very first baseball game with us on Friday--it was the Astros against the Detroit Tigers in Minute Maid Park. The Astros won the game 5-4 and it was an absolute blast! Best time I think I've ever had at a major league game before--for a lot of reasons, but mostly Lathan was an awesome fan!! Oh my word, I was soooo proud and soooo impressed with how good he did! He didn't cry once the entire time--even with all the noise, hooping, hollering, loud music, etc., he was as content as could be! At 4 months! Yes, he is Superbaby. He's a light sleeper and only got to sleep for maybe 30 minutes from 7pm til 11pm because he first had to get over the heat, then I had to hold his head against my chest to stifle the sounds in one ear and cover his other ear with his burp cloth with my hand. It was pretty warm, but he still did not fuss. The park roof was closed and air conditioned, so eventually he cooled down, but it was still muggy. We got a brief time on the jumbotron too and Lathan can now brag how he got on it in his first game ever! After the game, the park hosted a great fireworks display set to music (they do this every Friday night, by the way), and he just watched in my arms. I plugged his ears to lessen the noise, but he sat in my lap contently and was mesmerized by the lights. It was so incredible to watch him witness them for the first time. I loved it!

Ok, so I spoke too soon! I have NO time! What in my right mind ever made me think I'd have time? Ha, I must laugh at my last post. What changed? My daughter's schedule! As I still feel like I'm stepping into parenthood and I'm getting a taste now of what it's like to have TWO; it has been a challenge to say the least! She has swimming at the YMCA Monday through Thursdays now, and the night before her first lesson, I was thinking about all I was going to have to do to prepare the night before. Wow. Get him ready, get her ready, take a change of clothes..will she need a shower, where will he stay, should I take him in with me, watch him get hungry just as we leave, what if we're late on the first day? Ahh!! I know you mothers out there are feeling my pain. How on earth did you do it? And the single moms? My hats off to you. I know I couldn't have done it myself; that's when I'd be throwing in the towel and say to her, "Well, I'll just teach you to swim myself one day..." Yep, I feel ya.

So here I am, off for the summer but still feel like I have a full-time job with the kids. It's been an adventure! Every now and then I get some time to step away and dive into all my sessions I've been itching to see! Recently I had a rare but fun studio session with a little angel baby and she was the best! Mom was so smart and brought her over at the peak of her day, fed her clear foods, and she was happy as can be. We had a great session for documenting her christening dress on her. This dress is amazing! Handmade by the baby's grandmother from her own wedding dress years before, it is a keepsake for sure. I was lucky enough to solidify the memories of this gorgeous heirloom on this baby and got some great shots! It seems every single image was outstanding; I had a hard time throwing any away. Then we had some fun with a tutu and some butterfly wings. Here's a few shots from this great session!

I'd also like to Praise God for some really great news in my family recently! My sister had a very big cancer scare and the doctors seemed sure she had lung cancer. As you can imagine, this idea has been tormenting our family and the thoughts of everything we needed to do for her were overwhelming us with fear. With lots of prayer and mercy, God delivered the test results to indicate yesterday that she did not have cancer, and what the doctors saw was not dangerous. My sister was so happy!! I am so happy for her, her family, her kids! It was an amazing testimony to what God does for people everywhere, every day. We so rarely hear about the near-misses, I just feel the need to tell you what God did for us in our lives recently. So many things to praise Him for; not enough room to mention it all! My life, although difficult and hurting at times, is changing for the better and so are the lives of the ones I love and I am grateful for that. For those that are still out of jobs and are still struggling emotionally and physically, you are all in my prayers. I love you and Jesus does too!!

Ahhh!! I have TIME!

What is this all about? It's summer! Thank the Lord, it's summer! I'm done with another year of teaching, and although I enjoy lighting kids' brains on fire...I am so glad to be out. Teaching wouldn't be so bad if there weren't all this "turn in that" and "fill this out" and "email him" and "test, test, test!!!". If it were just teaching, it would be my second all-time favorite dream job. Ha! Anyway, I am finally being gifted slots of time where all I have to do is learn, create, learn some more. I think that is really my dream job. If I could just get paid to learn, create, learn some more, create better, learn...ahhh...it would be great. What fun! ...and yes, I am a nerd.

So with this time, I've updated my website a bit. You'll see the little man I thought was so cute at a recent session. I hope to switch out the background more often; we'll just have to see how the time spins. I've also added new music, isn't it great? Sweet, sweet baby is a great song--I've known it for awhile and it's pretty popular. It was on a site once that I visited before I started in photography and the inspiration it created in me has been unmatched. Thus, here it is, on my site. The second song is by my worship minister at church, Jonathan Ross. He wrote and recorded that song for his then-new wife, Jennifer. I have blogged about this incredible couple before when I did her maternity session for their newest addition. I promise I'll be taking pictures of their baby soon; she's adorable!! Now no post is complete without a picture, so here's our baby boy! He is the most beautiful and happy baby boy in the whole world, although you can't tell the happy part from the picture. He looks totally serious. His sister was the exact same way. One day he'll smile from the camera, he'll just have to turn two first... :) He is doing things it doesn't seem like most 3 1/2 month olds do...he's holding his head up really well, he hates laying down in a bouncer. Every time we put him in one, he lifts his upper body to try and get out, then starts waving his arms around like, "pick me up!". He already likes to sit in the exersaucer, as long as he's turned around and he can rest his face on the headrest. Put a towel behind his back and he's perfectly happy for quite a while! He loves exercising his michelin man legs and standing up on my lap too. He's so chunky! 99th percentile or something like that; probably more now! Anyway, there's your baby update and here he is!

Playtime with an Angel

I had a great time recently with a wonderful family...I just love relaxed shoots! We had a great time at the park near the lake; and their little boy was sooo active!! Running around, jumping here and there, it was so much fun! Yes, to answer your question, it was challenging grabbing shots and chasing after this all-boy wonder, but I wouldn't be a child photographer if I wasn't up to the task! He kept me on my toes, even climbing and actively shooting from the ground at times! And his looks? To die for!! I mean, have you ever seen eyes like these? I love this picture; it was literally one of the first ten shots I took--before he realized the camera was chasing him...ha!! I can't decide which I like better, the color or the black sepia, perhaps you have an opinion? Well, we had such a great time, I can't wait to rifle through the rest of their session, but here's a sneak preview!

The Easter bunny was good to us this year--first time he did it all by himself! My daughter received a very cute purple garden set--some flowerpots of different sizes and a watering can. She absolutely loves it! The Easter bunny got it in hopes that he and she could spend time planting flowers together in the yard, and she was superexcited! Well, they broke them out this past week and had some great daddy/daughter time and I just melted with excitement watching them. Such a beautiful sight; I'm glad I got pictures for her to remember! These are not the best, but I was inside, shooting through the window screen while watching the baby--I just couldn't help myself!

It has been an incredible Easter! I have felt it for about two weeks now...needing the reminder of the sacrifice my Savior made for me. I knew this Easter would be big for me and it has been...I've celebrated Jesus' victory over death and temptation more than I can remember ever having celebrated before this year. As I grow older, I realize how significant His daily life was. How He didn't just carry that cross one day...He carried His cross daily. All for worthless me.

My husband and I went to see Passion of the Christ at our church on Friday night, and I am always amazed and humbled by the dramatization of that painful day. More than ever, I thought about how tempting it must have been for Christ to deliver Himself from the pain. How did He endure it all? It seems so easy to say "Of course He sacrificed His life..He's God." But no, it wasn't that easy. I know I will never fully understand His sacrifice, it is too much! So this year, we spoke to our daughter about the meaning behind Easter and she had so many questions! Some things, she already knew. She spoke of how Christ died on the cross, and the mean people that made Him die. That was not nice. We had a short video play at church and during the part of Jesus' death, she was pointing and saying, "Daddy! Look! That's bad!" I whispered in her ear, "Yes, sweetie, it was bad, but it doesn't stay bad..."I gave her the good news that He came back to life, He lives today, and she said "Hooray! Hi five!" And we did.

Here she is with her new little baby brother and her best friend from church. Awesome couple we've gotten to know...incredible faith and testaments to Jesus. Gorgeous living beings!
Speaking of this couple, Dustin and Carly, Dustin has given us so many little pieces of wisdom and has shared this video with our connection group; I recommend you view it as well. It was a witnessing tool used in the Czech Republic, where they don't use the words "God" and "Jesus" because the people are turned off by them immediately. So, they have to come up with different ways to tell the best story ever told and relate it to the people. It is a very hard video, worth the investment, and if you do watch it, just know you'll never be asked to do the same!

Back to work!

It's time! My maternity leave is over and I return to my classroom tomorrow. I'm sure it's understandable that I don't want to return! I wish I had more time with my baby! I'm sure it's like that with almost all new mom's; it's such a hard thing to separate from your newborn. Nonetheless, the workplace summons me and I must go. But things will look up soon; not too far from summer and soon I'll have more time with the both of them!

I am really starting to get in the swing of things in my photo business too! I've had a lot of requests for summer weddings and family portraits. I am loving the weather outside and hope to get out more soon and take some pictures! I've had one opportunity so far to take my little girl out; I couldn't help it two weekends ago with the way the weather was perfect. Here is a picture of her now--she's getting so big!

I'm also trying to schedule in time to get the newborn portraits taken of my baby boy, but between his bowel movements and eating schedule, its been next to impossible! I've tried on a couple of occassions to put him down and take pictures of him "au natural", but it never fails--he gets cold and will wet the blanket! Tricky business, newborn photography! Ha!

Yes, I promised you maternity photos, so I must deliver! I will honestly say I haven't had a chance to edit all of the ones I like, but here are a few. I also can't say why none of the ones I chose to edit are showing my face...hmm. I think I know why. Do you ever notice how critical you get when it comes to pictures of yourself? I'm that way too. Everyone else seems to photograph great--except me. Ha. Gotta get over it, huh? I'm a photographer, for goodness sakes!!

One Month! ..and Counting!

I can't believe it's already been a month since my baby was born! Doesn't the time fly? Here he is again!

We are steadily recovering in our household and slowly trying to gain momentum and get back up to speed. I am booking sessions beginning in April! Thanks to everyone who has emailed to check in on me--your care has been amazing! Thanks again!

We're getting so close to the baby coming...at least I hope it's close! I keep getting these different opinions; some say it's still a long way off, while others say it's just around the corner! We have 25 days left, and well, I am going to choose to think that's close! I have to in order to get through each day and night, it seems. I'm definitely in the sleepless, tired, winded days now, and am still teaching full time while all this is going on. I already seemed to have been having a hard time finding time to grade papers, and now it seems even worse with a 3 1/2 year old, pregnant belly, and a back that doesn't hold up. Sure wish I could hire somebody! :)
My little girl is so ready for baby brother...she pats him every morning and says, "Baby brother, please come out! I want to see you!" It is so cute! She's definitely a little mama and a great little helper!
I have maternity pictures on the way and will post some here...believe me, it was out of my comfort zone to have them taken, even though I take them all the time! I just feel so....hmm...how should I put this...fat! BUT, everyone tells me its all part of the process, and its natural, and in fact, that's what I tell my clients too...so why not listen to myself and all the people who love me? I know, I'm hard-headed. Oh well. I did get over it, and my friend Carly took some fabulous pictures! Can't wait to proof them (although it will take me a bit longer than normal, understandably...) and get them online to share!

Computer Crash!!

Ahhh!! Yep, it finally happened--I crashed my computer. Yes, it was my fault; I tried adding memory on my own and must have done something wrong, ugh! Luckily, most all of my pictures were backed up and those that weren't were able to be recovered from the hard drive...so lesson learned! Backup more often! Backup immediately. Whew, close call! I apologize if you've been waiting for your pictures to be processed; I had a long wait and process with Best Buy's Geek Squad to get my files, and now I've finally got them!

Otherwise, my Christmas break was awesome! 2 weeks of gettin' things done! Shopping, Christmas, painting, and New Year's. We got to paint the nursery for the baby and my daughter's new room (converted from my old office). She loves the colors...her favorite, purple and pink! Hee hee! I envy her room; I wish I had a room like that growing up! I almost want to move in with her! Ha! She has been a busy soon-to-be-big-sister and can't wait for Baby Brother. She asks if he's here yet and can't wait to help me with all his needs. She's such a little mama! I wish you could see her with her dolls. I caught her last night helping fold his clothes and put them away on camera...she is hilarious! I'm posting the video link here from YouTube! It's a hoot!

Merry Christmas everyone! I love this season! I'd love to share our Christmas cards with you; keep me in mind for next Christmas! We got a tri-fold (which means it opens right flap and left flap...kinda complicated); I wanted to try it out before I made it available to my clients. Anyway, here it is! Family Photo madness!

I've been just loving the family photo sessions I've been doing lately! It's been one of the most exciting (and busiest) times of the year for me; shopping and pictures! Yay! Here are a couple from my brother-in-law's beautiful family--gorgeous!

So the shopping...I was definitely out on Friday after Thanksgiving (although not as early as I wanted to be...so tired! ;) But when do you know when to stop? I mean, I'm not done with all the Christmas shopping, but seriously, I really think I have a problem I need to fix. Furiously rifling through the mail for coupons; would you say I'm addicted to shopping? Maybe! My husband definitely thinks so... :D He and I had a great time together; we let my daughter stay with her grandparents for the weekend and it left us with so much freedom--more than I had imagined. Don't get me wrong, I definitely missed her, but my goodness, I felt so free. It felt like we were dating again...you remember, when your husband would actually enjoy the mall with you. I found him dragging me to more and more stores; I had a hard time keeping up! Of course, I am 6 1/2 months pregnant and my back was sore, but still...he had that glitter in his eye. We get so excited when we shop for our daughter it's crazy (but fun!). We also went to watch the movie Australia, which was excellent. Long, but excellent. I really liked Moulin Rouge when I saw it, and both movies are made by the same director with a lot of the same actors. A lot of people think it's about Australia, but really, it just ends up being the location. Based on real events in Australia, but the story is great. Had me dreaming that night and still asking questions the next day. That's how I gauge a good movie! Definitely left an impression. Anyway, go check it out if you get out during the holidays! Life and Mentors

Have you ever had a mentor? I recommend you get one if you haven't already had one. These are people that are wiser than you, have "been there, done that", and that you trust will lead you in the right direction. I've had the pleasure recently of photographing a couple and their family who have served as mentors for me and my husband for a long time. They are so amazing! So giving! I know there are people like this out there, but when you come across stellar personalities like this, you feel so blessed. That's how I feel now. My husband and I are so blessed to claim this couple as past and future mentors. I love them dearly! Thank God for these creations!

His Face

I am not the expert on anything. I know this for a fact. I don't claim to have all the answers, but I know this...God lives. My husband said it this past weekend...that we have seen the face of God. I knew exactly what he meant. He has poured His grace and love on us and has blessed us so much recently. It was incredible to hear him say that, and it seems almost too surreal to believe. In case you have ever wondered, and I am speaking to myself here too, God does exist! Wish I could expound more, but wow, I'm just in awe!

I love, love, love the fall! Family pictures, Christmas around the corner...it all just comes together. Can't you just think clearer on those beautiful, cool, crisp, days? Doesn't it all make sense? :)

I have to share the news! I'm expecting! I'm 20 weeks now, due March 5th, and it's a boy! Yippee! We're so excited. Now for some baby boy names...hmmm. That is the hard part. I remember having a hard time thinking up boy names when I was pregnant the first time; and she was a surprise. Yes, we waited. Horrible mistake--the doctor forgot we didn't know! Aaargh! Then we had to ask the "clean everything" guy, and he's like, "oh, what is it? ummm....it's a boy." We breathed a sigh of relief. "No, it's a girl." Aaaargh!! Make up your mind! Anyway, we found out this time.

Here's some pictures of my "baby" girl now...seems like only yesterday she was a baby. She's getting so big! Slow down, girl! Hopefully she'll start liking the camera...it's been tough when she runs the other way!

Hurricane Eek!

Yes, we got through it okay, but my goodness, this hurricane sure caused a whole lot more devastation than I think anyone ever imagined! Power lines, trees, the whole gammut. We rode out the storm here at home, and it was a crazy night! On the evening before the hurricane, school was cancelled for the next day and there were Hurricane parties all over the neighborhood--definitely something you wouldn't expect! My daughter was excited to go outside in the wind that evening (no rain yet...) so, of course, I took advantage of the situation and took some photos. Here's a couple of my favorites, hope you like them too! :)

I am glad we escaped with minor damages, just an uprooted tree, but there were so many people who were not as fortunate. Please pray for the families along the coast and even inland who were affected so much more harshly than we were, and many still without power. Thanks so much!

My goodness, I have been so incredibly busy, and summer's already over! Ahhh! I feel horrible I haven't posted all summer, but I have been overwhelmed, or shall I say blessed ;) with work. School has started again and I am going to hit another stride of busyness, I feel it already! 2nd day of school was great, just as good as the first day! Amazing

"Indescribable, uncontainable, you are Amazing God!" I love that song...listening to it now, and while I do my work gives what I do the meaning I want it to have...the amazing wonders of God. "Awestruck, we fall to our knees we humbly proclaim, 'You are amazing, God!...You see the depths of my heart and you love me the same...You are amazing, God..". How often do we fall to our knees and humbly proclaim that? Not often enough for me! I want to do it daily!!

So then, I have been inspired by this couple. I have enjoyed the incredible opportunity to take maternity portraits for them and it just so happens they have no idea how much I admire them. They are an amazing couple, leaders in my church, and they make me want to be amazing, just as they are. I once spoke of the 2nd Mile Lifestyle, the series our church is doing (http://www.bammel.org/). He has preached on it, they exemplify it, and God speaks through him. Those words come into my heart and inspire me; they make me want to love more and do more for His kingdom! I'm so shy sometimes, though, I wonder if I would look silly! How's that for a struggle? Silly me...I should just conquer that, huh? Ok.

So here they are; an amazing couple with a work of art created by Him on the way. We're within days now! Too exciting!

Sacrifices

The 2nd Mile

Matthew 5:41--If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.

I have always wanted a "2nd mile" lifestyle, I just didn't know what to call it. A 2nd mile lifestyle--the kind of life that although not perfect, yearns for, aches for, and seeks the heart of the living God. Going the 2nd mile in our lives, our families, our communities. My church (http://www.bammel.org/) has recently introduced this series--titled the "2nd Mile Lifestyle", and the messages have convicted me to stretch myself and my faith to achieve it. What is it about this life that makes it so complicated? So many things...why do I allow those things to get in the way of my faithfulness? Perhaps because I'm afraid of the sacrifice faithfulness involves. So many things I have...gifts, love, passion...I need to give it away! I need to put them to good use! I feel limited at times. How am I limited? By myself! By the faith I have in my own abilities, not by God or His abilities! He can bless me with more and more knowledge; more and more passion for what I do; yet still I hold back, even when the things He could do are endless. If only I would hear Him... and REALLY LISTEN to HIM...I would be moved. I want to be moved! Lord, move me. I know it is up to me. I know it is my decision to hear You. I will make the decision to hear You.

Faith like a child. Lord, to have the faith I had as a child...I remember it so well. No wonders, no doubt. There is God. His son, Jesus. Jesus died so I could be saved. Jesus listens and God has angels that watch over me. I used to envision them before I went to bed in the corner of the ceiling, watching me. Lord, I want that faith again.

My Sweet Spot. The Gift that God has given me--on purpose. For a purpose. I have one. Photography? People? Church? Relationships? I love them all and many other things. Lord, help me find my Sweet Spot.

The 2nd mile lifestyle...I want it. Following Jesus Christ in my daily life. Do people look at me and see Jesus Christ? Not enough right now, honestly. I need to realize I will not find fullfillment on the 1st mile. What if I went past the 1st mile in my faithfulness, my loyalty, my love, my joy, my service, and went a 2nd mile--will people see Jesus then? I am called to go there. I've got to go there. There is where I will find a fulfilled life; Jesus promises it! Why do I do photography? Why do I call it Capturing Creations? Because I love God. I love His Creations, and I want to show the world His wonders. The 2nd mile in my photography is this--I promise, Lord, I will praise You with all my heart, and do my very best to tell of all Your wonders. To any customer, new or old, a free 11x14 print with any scripture you'd like printed on it...to display the word of God and His creation on your walls.

I love you, Lord. Thank you for my gifts. I will honor You with them, always.

How does the time pass?

My goodness, how does the time pass? As a teacher, I'm just thinking..."Come on, Spring Break!", as a parent, I'm thinking, "Wait! Slow down!", and as a photographer...well, haven't figured out that one yet...

But something has struck me recently. I am looking for ways to stay focused on what I started this business for...Capturing Creations. My goal, my mission statement...to capture His Creations on camera and somehow present a fraction of His beauty to the world. If He has given me this talent, why not use it to His glory? I knew what the name of my business would be first, and I looked to the bible to see what scripture justified what I felt my role is here. I came upon Psalm 9:1 “I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart, I will tell of all your wonders.” That is exactly how I felt starting this business. I want to tell of all his Wonders! What are His Wonders? Everything and everyone and their relationships; all that is simple, and all that is complicated. Love and what it produces. Nature. O Lord, I do want to praise You, and I do want to tell of all your Wonders--I want to show the faces of those you have created and present them as Your wondrous works of art! Use me, O Lord!

Hello there! Brand new spot, can't wait to get it going! So many exciting things happening, don't know where to start! New website, great opportunities, and new photo toys, of course! The new site now has a shopping cart feature so ordering will be a breeze...cool or what?! I'm so excited!

On another note, my late father's birthday today, and tomorrow--the anniversary of his death. So in memory of him...love you and miss you daddy. All I hope is that I am and will become everything you wanted for me. Here you are holding my daughter in your loving Grandpa arms. She knows who you are--and has asked to see you from time to time. I wish I could keep her memories of you in her head forever, for you were great and your love for her was amazing. You were a rock and your loss shook my existence. Your teachings stay strong in me, however, and I have not dwindled to nothing--no, I did what you taught me--I pursued and became triumphant, just as you were. I never knew the strength of the thread you weaved through me and our family until you were gone. We miss you, and are convicted to be as one for your sake. I will see you again one day beyond the azure blue, and now I see your laughing face as I walk past you in the living room of the home you built...thank you.
